SRCDS doesn't download files

I have a virtual machine on my PC and I have instaled Debian 5.0 on it. When I try to run ./steam to download server files, it doesn't work. My connection is use for few sec and then its stopped. I have Checking bootstraper version... and nothing else. Anyone know how fix this?

this is a common problem, i have experienced it many times. Just wait 10 minutes, if it doesn't finish at that time, do the command and wait again

Ok i fix this, but now i have another problem. When it start download I have a message :
No instalation directory supplied or previously set.
What I am doing wrong now?
