Small FPS drops

I'm running my server at 1000 FPS and I notice small FPS drops.
Is this normal and expected, or is there something I can do about it?

Maybe you should use a idler?

I'm running an idler and renice'd the server process to -20, no difference.

Nice does not help. Use chrt -f -p 98 PIDNUMBER

what kernel optimizations etc. do you use? if you didn't already try my howto, it might help...
