What cand i do more ? (1000 Fps)
#1
Hi.I have a linux HLDS server on Debian x86 (2.8 Ghz Pentium 4,1 Gb DDRAM2,80 Gb hdd Sata2) with kernel 2.6.31.12-rt21 (1000 Hz etc...).Also,i use taskset -c 1 and resched.sh , sys_ticrate 1050 .

Here is my graph :

When there are more then 15 players on the server (26 slot max),my FPS goes wild .... What can i do more to get let's say drops between 1000 and 900 (i would be very pleased to obtain that). The IDLER doesn't make any difference. Also, the linux kernel is properly set to be RT (settings from http://wiki.fragaholics.de/index.php/EN:Linux_Kernel_Optimization).I know hlds is old and buggy ( srcds gives me constant 950-1000 fps with full server ),but i really want to improve my hlds server for best performance.
PS:I don't really want 1000 fps,i want STABLE fps , i don't care if they are 1000 or 500 or 300...

probably your cpu is simply too slow. P4s are technically 10 years old...

probably better. but AMD isn't the optimal choice for running srcds/hlds. you can be lucky and everything works fine, but chances are higher than on intel that you run into problems.
and try the settings of my howto...

Are you saying that a Intel is better then AMD ? I don't think so...Latest AMD Quad Core > 3 Ghz is great,i wouldn't buy Intel,is expensive and not really great...Tehnicaly,my HLDS should run better on my AMD Dual Core (is 3 yeras later then my P4),also my Gygabyte motherbord on AMD supports HPET,my DELL doesn't ! And yes,i allready tried everything in your HOWTO with no succes...after 14-15 players FPS drops horrible...

I am saying that hlds/srcds generally runs better on Intel based systems. That's an observation based on what I hear in the forums etc., I don't have any AMD-based server. In your case, if you have the choice between the two mentioned machines, you should try the AMD, because it's way faster. The P4 is apparently not fast enough to serve more than ~15 slots, so you can use it for one war server but not more.
On the other hand, if you buy a new machine, I strongly recommend an Intel-based system. Better buy a not-so recent Intel CPU than having problems, if you don't want to spend so much money.

Thats a P4' for ya...

And the comparable AMD and Intel processors are similarly priced...
You may think your $90 AMD processor is blazing fast super high GHz speeds! OMGWUT!?!
But in reality its just a Geo Metro with rocket boosters.

Switched to my AMD platform and made a fresh install of Debian 5.04 x64.Also,i made a fresh install of my HLDS server and started to recompile the new RT kernel linux-2.6.33-rc8.gz with patch-2.6.33-rc8-rt1.gz.All settings done by your HOWTO ... When i finished,i tried to boot with the new kernel with no succes. It gave me an error : ata1.00 revalidation failed (errno=-5).I had to edit my menu.lst with start option noapic acpi=off (i don't know what it does) and it worked.Ok...so i started my server (taskset -c 1 ... -pingboost 3 +sys_ticrate 1050).The FPS were super stable at 1000 but when i joined the server (LAN) eberybody had huge pings (i had from 2,3 ping 100 !).Also the game was 3-4 seconds fast then slow....Now i'm compileing an older RT kernel, hope it will do better then this one ...

Hello. Running a Q6600 machine. Currently used on the windows! 've Been running linux on but it was a while ago! What I wonder is if I can run 1000 fps on all cores? In windows, I have to reach 1000 fps change all 4 cores to 1 cpu. Wanted to use all 4 cores to share servers.
