I'm now getting this error on my TF2 dedicated server.

This is what SRCS looks like AFTER I ran HldsUpdateTool:

Code:

This is the command I used to update TF2, if I just used c:\TF2DS HldsUpdateTool wouldn't run:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer\HldsUpdateTool.exe" -command update -game tf -dir c:\TF2DS\orangebox -verify_all

I thought this was odd to begin with, because I have it set to autoupdate. This is my launch line:
Code:
C:\TF2DS\srcds.exe -console -game tf +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort -autoupdate -insecure +fps_max 701 -hostport 27016

It took two hours for HldsUpdateTool to run and download stuff, and even after that I'm still having problems...

I'm going to delete InstallRecord.blob and run HldsUpdateTool again. I just wanted to post all this here in case someone notices I'm missing something obvious.

Server OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 x86
Processor: Pentium 4 2.8 w/ HT
Ram: 1.5GB
Game: TF2
Start Up Command: C:\TF2DS\srcds.exe -console -game tf +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort -autoupdate -insecure +fps_max 701 -hostport 27016

Change the startup command to:
Code:
C:\TF2DS\srcds.exe -console -game tf +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort -insecure +fps_max 701

Make sure the server is stopped when you are updating it, and I would also add the variable -retry to the update, just to make sure it retries if it fails for some reason. Give it time, and it should update.

I know now that I have to remove the -autoupdate since it only works on linus, but I keep the hostport on the end because I run more than one srcds server on this box.

Add a username to it. My server wouldn't update for one reason or another so when I tried the username and password it worked.

Code:
-username "putasteamusernamehere"
Code:
-password "passgoeshere"

Try that and see what happens.

Username and Password for hlds have not been used for ages.

Yup, Steam user and pass not required anymore.

Well, I've ran HldsUpdateTool about 25 times, completes every time, kills my internet connection updating everything - and I'm STILL getting this error.

Edit: Alright so what I've done is change the directory to C:\TF2DS and instead of running this program as a shortcut, I've manually done so through a command prompt. I deleted the installrecord.blob before running from the command prompt in hopes of tricking the tool. It's running now and we'll see what the outcome ends up as.

Edit2: This is what I'm getting as an error:
Code:
C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game tf -dir
c:\TF2DS\ -verify_all
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Edit3: Kept re-running it over and over and finally got this:
Code:
C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game tf -dir
c:\TF2DS\ -verify_all
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Connection Reset, WinSock Error 10054 "Connection reset by peer"

Leave it to Valve to push out another update and break my server.

I'm back to square one. This is all I keep getting:

Code:
C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer>HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game tf -dir
c:\TF2DS\ -verify_all
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I edited a script that keeps the update running after it crashes, and let it run overnight. It's closed and re-ran 200+ times, every time with the same error. SRCDS does not even start anymore, it instantly crashes. I've never had so much trouble with SRCDS before until I decided on a TF2 server.

Can you give up all the info about your system?
Are you running the command line as admin?

Give us this info and it should help:

Also, your sig is amazing.

I had the info in the first post, but here is the updated info:

Server OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 x86
Processor: Pentium 4 2.8 w/ HT
Ram: 1.5GB
Game: TF2
Start Up Command: C:\TF2DS\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort -insecure +fps_max 701 -hostport 27016
Alternate Start Up Command: C:\TF2DS\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf -insecure -hostport 27016 +maxplayers 12 +map ctf_2fort
Admin Mods: none

I'm running this under an administrator account in XP. All this computer does is run SRCDS, nothing else. I'm so annoyed with this TF2 server that I'm backing up my settings and starting from scratch.

That quote made me laugh when I read it, so I figured it would make an excellent sig Smile

Did you try re-installing the hldsupdatetool?
Also, replase -hostport 27016 with -port 27016

Did you shut down the server before updating?

Yeah. What's the difference between -hostport and -port?

And of course, what kind of n00b doesn't shut down a server before updating it? Big Grin

Anyway, I got everything working again. I backed up my config files, deleted the whole TF2DS folder, and started from scratch. I think that's what I'll be doing every time there's an update. It's a HUGE pain, but it seems to be the only thing that works.
