Player slots for multiple games
#1
Hello der,

I am just wondering if anyone can give me their opinion on the on the amounts of players that should be allowed to join on the following hardware and connection for the following games: Garry's Mod, Team Frotress 2, Counter Strike: Source. Thanks in advance.

Download Speed: 10 MBitPS
Upload Speed: 1 MBitPS
Server OS: Windows Server 2003 32-bit
Processor: Two Xeon 2.8 GHz Processors
Ram: 4GB
Game(s): Currently running Garry's Mod. Looking to Expand or change.

Yea, the speeds are right. Charter Communications is a fucked up ISP, so don't even go there XD. I jus need some opinions. I have the money available to get another server. Oh, and if you're wondering, the server I have at the moment is an HP Proliant DL360.

I wouldn't run anymore than 12 - 16 slots with a max rate of 20000 of anything on that upload speed.

Hardware wise what do you think? Besides the connection speed?

Are those Xeon quad core processors? If so, then your slot limit is amazingly high...

I think its just a regular dual core. If so, for sourced base games, I would say maybe 40ish 100 tickrate slots per core. For orange box, may be roughly 32.

I assume its a single core, as the DL360 series doesn't come with 2.8GHz Dual core or Quad core processors, and I also assume he has a DL380 G3 which supports Dual Xeon 2.8GHz Processors... But still your bottleneck is your bandwidth Toungue
