[Resolved] Gmod 10 - Can only see server if SRCDS is running on that machine
#1
I have two computers on the same network. If I run a dedicated server on one machine, I can only find it in the server list and connect to it on that machine. If I go to the other machine I can't find it or connect to it. My ports are all forwarded properly, when I ran the server on the other machine to test I switched the forwarding accordingly, so that isn't the problem. I have heard that sometimes computers on the same network don't play nice. How can I fix this?

What ip are you using to connect on your local computer, and what is the IP you're using to connect on your other computer on the same LAN.

When I am running srcds and running Gmod on the same machine, I can find the server on the master server list, and it lists the IP as 74.197.20.11. I can't see the server at all from my other computer.

If you forwarded your ports to one computer, it will allow that computer to talk to Steam. If you didn't change the port forwards to the other computer when you tried to run the server on it, then that's your problem.

I did that. Still nothing.

Because your other computer is on the same LAN, this is why I asked what IP you were using to connect to on your other machine...

Any of the machines on your LAN need to connect using their internal IP address. When you communicate outside the LAN you will need to use your external IP address.

Now use the internal IP address of the game server ( should be something like 192.168 , 172.16, or 10.0 ) And connect to that IP address via console.
The game server should also show up in the LAN tab of steam servers.

Worked like a charm, sorry for my incompetence. I'm really new to this sort of thing. Thanks!
