Left 4 Dead 2 - 21 FPS ? Why not 30!

Hey

I must admit im much more used to using Linux servers for srcds (so sorry if im being a n00b).

BASIC INFO
Server OS: Windows 2008 R2 (64-Bit)
Processor: Dell R200 Intel DualCore Xeon X3065 2.33Ghz
Ram: 2GB
Game(s): Left 4 Dead 2
Start Up Command: "-console -game left4dead2 +map c1m1_hotel
Admin Mods: No Mods

So basically I know L4D2 server is capped at 30fps, however the windows server seems to insist on staying at 21.(something) fps when players have joined. Is this normal, and is there anyway of boosting up to the max allowed ? (or would it even matter? )!

Cheers!

In your server.cfg, and your starup line, try setting fps_max to 0.

I will try setting this and let you know, but fps_max is an unrecognised command in l4d2 servers.

Thanks for the reply Smile

I put +fps_max 0 in the commandline and added fps_max 0 to the server.cfg

The FPS still remains at 21.3x when players are connected.

Any other ideas ? Smile

Ill just add, if you get Windows using the High Res timer by running media player or something similar, you get 28/29fps.

A bit better, at least your not losing 30% of the potential FPS then Wink

I thought l4d and l4d2 were locked at below 30fps
Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

They are locked at 30fps, but that isn't his problem. He is trying to get up to 30.

indeed Smile The server was running at 21fps, which means you are essentially loosing 33% of the allowed FPS (which is fairly low anyway).

Simply getting windows to use the high resolution timer gets it up to 28/29fps Smile

The default windows timer allows for 60fps...

SO does your server run at 30fps constant ?

Its so strange because my CPU usage is practically 0% and yet it insists on 21fps :S

To be honest Instinct, nobody is going to complain if a L4D server is at 21 FPS. Everyone is too busy killing zombies to notice a 9 fps difference from other servers, and to be honest, most servers probably run in the low 20 FPS range anyways.

Yea, since the new update most non valve owned l4d servers remain empty :/
