Kernel help
#1
I have recently compiled the kernel using the guide provided somewhere on these forums, I find that every srcds instance is locked at 99% cpu usage when booting and will never actually fully load Sad

Anyone had a similar experience with a compiled kernel?

Maby you got wrong startparametrs for the game and its not the kernel?
Does it also happen, if you take the vanilla sources without the patch and set it to low latency desktop?

it might also be a problem with the server installations or the connectivity to the VAC servers... try the default kernel of your distribution. if that works, its most likly your kernel.
please provide more information about your kernel etc., else we cannot help you...

Hiya glad you responded as I used your guide to compile the kernel Smile

My current kernel and setup is:

Kernel: 2.6.26-2-amd64
Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q6700
RAM: 4GB
HDD: 120GB

I used the compiled kernel with the result I posted above but then tried the vanilla kernel to find that it worked fine :/

Are you trying to run L4D/L4D2?

I've found that on some machines SRCDS incorrectly detects the CPU frequency via RDTSC and this can cause it to mindlessly consume CPU cycles without functioning.
