C2D Celeron wtih 2GB RAM?
#1
Hey there,

I am located in Argentina and am looking to maybe rent a dedicated server. Right now I rent one gameserver from a local company, but have experience running dedicated servers with this type of games. It has been quiet a while since the last time I did though. So, I wanted to know, how many Source servers or Source + L4D1/2 servers could I run on a C2D Celeron (not sure which speed yet) with 2GB ram?

Help is appreciated.

We need more information on the server, more specific specs, exact processor, speed, ram, connection speed, etc.

Celeron D E1400 (2.0GHz, dual core), 2GB RAM, 10mbps connection. Not sure how more specific that can go.

It does not specify which processor, nor connection, so yes it could be more specific, even more than what you posted. And to answer your post, it's not worth even getting that server. It will not hold much, I would guess 40-50 100tick css slots. Celeron's are poor excuses for processors. Spend the extra and get a better server.

Those lower end celerons aren't the best for game servers... They benchmark a little over a P4... So I wouldn't put more than 20x 66tick slots per core.

What about something like a C2D E4600 (2,40 GHz) with 4GB of RAM hold out, with a 10mbit line.

30 100tick CS:S slots, 20 TF2 Slots <10 Gmod Slots ( Per Core )
These are safe estimates, you could probably run more than what I said, but then again, I have never had experience with a E4600...

Ok, I finally got a quote from an ISP here in my country who also provides companies with quality Dell servers (they are expensive though) and this is what they can offer me:

Dell PowerEdge 1950
Intel Xeon Quad Core 2GHz
4GB DDR2 800MHz
2x250GB HD in RAID 1
Windows 2003 or CentOS 5
300 GB of bandwidth per month (I know, it's does not seem much, but would it be enough for hosting to max out the server with gameservers?)

Suggestions on this box please?

Thanks!

Yeah 300gb will go quick with the amount of slots that server can hold. I would say 120-140 100tickrate css slots to completely max out the box, without bandwidth being a factor.

UP your bandwidth to at least 1000GB, but 300GB will go fast.

Freaking 3rd world countries, bunch of high priced suckers with no knowledge whatsoever of what they offer and how to use it. God darn it.

Ok, so I am ordering the following:

Intel C2D E7400 @ 2.8GHz
4GB RAM
320GB Hard Drive
10mbps unmetered line

I am unsure wheter to go with Linux or Windows though. I might want to add a control panel like TCadmin to do all the work, in case I want to offer a server to someone or something like that.

Well if you plan on using TCAdmin, that limits your OS to Windows lol. . .

Unless you can suggest an idea of why not use a CP or get a linux CP? As well as might get less resources available by going to windows, etc.

The CP is all up to you, either you want to run one or you don't.
