Left 4 Dead 2 Server help :)
#1
Hehe, just trying to get servers up now!

First off, they're running on 100mbit dedicated server in Brisbane which is running CentOS Linux Distro. That should be enough info as I'm not having performance issues or anything.

1) With the startup line for left 4 dead games, how do I make it force the gamemode I want? It keeps defaulting to Scavenger or Versus instead of Coop which I want.

2) Second thing is I HAVE managed to start one of the servers in Versus mode, but it won't auth with VAC? Even after 30 minutes, 'VAC Secure Mode Enabled' doesn't come up. I know there could be anything wrong, but other servers hosted on the same box (ie. our Stargate TC2 server) auth fine. L4D2 specific thing?

Anyway would appreciate input Smile.

Cheers.

Same problem, can anyone get these cvars working?

I start my servers with:
./srcds_run -game left4dead2 -update +ip XX.XX.XX.XX -netconport 91## -netconpassword xxxxxx +hostport 27100+## -steamport 28900+## +clientport 25000+## +exec server##.cfg -nohltv -fork 8

Then after following several posts elsewhere I've tried in variously adding in the (otherwise working) server.cfg's
mp_gametype "versus"
mp_gametype versus
sv_gametypes "versus"
sv_gametypes versus

All that happens is 8 Campaign Mode (coop) servers launch.
The individual server.cfgs are being read because hostname sets correctly.

left4dead2 servers isn't protected with VAC I think. I don't see a reason to cheat in L4D2.

I think they would be considering it is a valve game, and you can cheat in l4d to steal every bodies kills for achievements.

Just realized that there is VAC. And I have the same problem with Linux servers, mine isn't VACCED either. But my Windows is.

bullshit forget this ....

mp_gametype "versus"
mp_gametype versus

this command is deleted at l4d2....dont use it its useless.....
if you want to change the mode you need to use sv_gametype "mode" or if you want more sv_gametype "mode, mode". Normally L4D2 Server are VAC secured. I host a lot of them, without problems..... or you load the map directly "map MAPENAME GAMEMODE" > e.g. map MAPNAME versus
the problem is sometimes in versus mode > the server changed the map directly after loading because of non human players.
dont forget, l4d2 is a little bit buggy right now ... see sv_password -.-

in L4D2, all the gametypes are included on the map itself. The way to force switch to a map with gametype mode is to put the gametype name after the map name. This can only be enforced at server start up.

map c2m4_barns versus
map c2m1_highway realism

you get the idea Smile
