You would need a dedicated computer to stream a live stream using xfire or a similar program from spectator or SourceTV on the match server.

Yes, just issue the RCON command when you want to record: tv_record <demoname> and then when you are done, tv_stop.

This will store the .dem on your Computer, and will allow you to watch later by downloading it to your computer!

livestream is kind of weird because it will only allow 50 viewers maximum, while most popular sourcetv relays have like 100+ slots, just something to remember

You can stream to well over 50 people with a live stream, you just need to get the correct software also using a free cam site such as justin.tv will work better then trying to host it yourself unless you have your own personal dedicated server for your web hosting

So we cannot directly stream to a web server for broadcasting?

For example, if I use my web server as a SourceTV relay (with small number of slots), and use it to record .dem, would it be possible to setup a frontend for playing it back (maybe with certain time delay)?

I don't know of any front-end to support this. Mainly because you need the game to watch demos. There is no stand-alone support to view SourceTV.

The only possible thing I can thing of would be a bot that records the game as a streamable video. I guess if you were able to create qa web-end to give users access over the bot it may work... it would NOT be any easy job in any way, however.

"...Mainly because you need the game to watch demos."

Same here, that I couldn't find any 3rd party frontend for playing the .dem file, but a Google search returns some good methods for converting .dem to other video formats. Big Grin

I am going to try this next week:

Would be great if there is some Linux command line tool that can do such conversion. Then I could try setting the length of each .dem an hour long, and setting a cron job for my relay box, for doing the conversion in every one hour. Depending on how much time such conversion would take, it might be a fine alternative.

An interesting news, that Xfire is planning to feature a free live streaming service:
