I have a problem on 1 of my servers.
Its running centos 5.4
Rcon and logadress are not working for l4d2 demo but on my debian server the rcon and logadress (for hlx) works fine.
Also a tf2 server that is running on my centos server is working fine with rcon (from hlsw).
HLSW says failed when connecting to rcon.
I disabled iptables but still nothing.
Is there something else that can block it? or is it a bug in l4d2?

Shutdown iptables and try again, or maybe you really wrote a bad rcon password ?
Maybe you could find help in a centos community, most people use Deb.
I hope you will resolve it !

Do you have anything at all that is blocking TCP connections?

Well other servers are working fine with rcon. I can send rcon commands to the server and in the log i see the server answer but I don't get the answer in my screen (or in hlx deamon).

hi,
i have problems with rcon and l4d2 too
using Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS, with 2.6.24-24-rt kernel
startline is "./srcds_run -game left4dead2 -fork 2 +ip xx.xx.xx.100 +hostport 27015 +map c5m1_waterfront -autoupdate"
since the l4d2 demo came out, i got no response from the server via rcon, using hlsw
the commands are working, testet with hostname and kick
but i cant get the remotelog or use the status command in hlsw
also the demo update didnt fix this problem for me, now i am using the l4d2full version and still the same
i also reloaded and shutdown my firewall (shorewall) for testing, no luck
but i think thats not the problem
had a l4d1 server running on the same ip/port and rcon response was working correct
do i have to enable "rcon response" somewhere?

Both of you should update to the latest version of HLSW and see if that solves your problem

i am on HLSW1.3.2.1 now, also have other versions on other pc´s i tried it from
no luck
really no clue what i am doing wrong
i also had a look at tcpdump, but since hlsw is pinging all the time to the same port as rcon uses this is kinda useless
so i tried rcon unlimited, a quake engine rcon tool just for testing
it connects fine but when i send the command status there is no reply packet from the server(tcpdumping on the gameserver)
just to give more details
my server has one nic (eth0), and i set up 3 virtual interfaces (eth0:0-eth0:2) to handle my ip space
eth0:1 was used as l4d1 server with rcon working fine
now eth0:1 and eth0:2(wich i newly created for the l4d2 demo) are handling the l4d2 servers
if there is more useful input i can give, please tell me
thx

The problem is well known. In the hlds mailinglist everybody noticed the problem. Valve broke rcon querrys for hlsw using linux and the games tf2, l4d, l4d2
