Servername with åäö
#1
Is it possible to have a servername with specialchars, like åäö in it? My server is just ignoring that chars from the configfiles and the console input.

Yes. You can write UTF-8 characters into the config file. Open your server.cfg with Notepad or Write and then in "save as" select UTF-8 Encoding.

No, that does not work. The servername just stops where the UTF8 char should be.

In my experience, it only works with normal characters (like keyboard keys). I think this is because in-game text is usually a special font, and they want to make it easier on themselves Smile

No it is not. They usually show up as squares.

See my signature. See those stars in the beginning and in the end of the name? They're UTF-8 characters. The scandinavian åäö can be also written in UTF-8. You must make sure that you save the file as UTF-8 and not as ANSI.

I used emacs to write the characters, but it shouldn't matter which editor you use to write as long as you save as UTF-8.

Can it have something to do with the Server Operating System? I'm currently running Windows 2003 on my servers.

No, not actually. Did you change the default ANSI type to UTF-8 from Notepad when saving?

Yes, I have tried both notepad and Notepad++ to save as UTF-8, and I have verified that the file actually is UTF-8.
