Issue involving OS and setup
#1
Hey guys.

I just wanted to know if the guide works with server 2008 Windows because thats what I am running and i coming up with a problem. In the cmd prompt when i get to this hldsupdatetool -command update -game “Counter-Strike Source” -dir C:\srcds I put the command in and it says

Checking Bootstrapper version...
Updating Installation...
Then it says CMultiFieldBlob: Unable to grow blob

What does this mean? I have tried other guides and they just say it has stopped working but im pretty sure this is the same thing.
So i guess my question is Can you use this guide on Server 2008 and is this the problem?
If i cant use it with the guide can u post another that has it?
Or is it another problem all together?

Thanks guys

Have you tried just running hldsupdatetool with no arguments? Try that and see if it works Smile

I get the same thing with TF2.

You have to make the folder before you install to it.
Make the C:\srcds folder, then run the line again.

It is because you got UAC Enabled. Either you can disable it or right click "Run as Administrator"

sadly UAC was not problem.
I was running it as admin. Even I tried it with UAC Disabled.

Problem solved(?)
I guess it is temporary steam server problem.
If you have run hldsupdatetool before, you might have ClientRegistery.blob file in the same directory.
Just copy that file to new server folder which has new hldsupdatetool.exe.

Then hldsupdatetool.exe will not try to build ClientRegistery.blob file and start to download game server files.

OR.. wait until valve fixes this problem

Okay, i've had the same problem and here's the fix:

After installing the HldsUpdateTool.exe to your c:\srcds you have to run it. Do this via command prompt like in the tutorial. The problem is, people don't wait long enough for the blinking cursor. Wait untill it's at the blinking part where you can type and don't press ctrl + c. When this is the case you should start the following sentence

HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game cstrike -dir c:\srcds -username "usernamehere" -password "password here"

WITHOUT QUOTES unless you have a space in your loginname or password. This should do the trick.

Username and password hasn't been used for a VERY long time.
This was actually a bug that Valve just fixed. Delete your blob file and run the updater/installer again. This should fit it Smile
