[Resolved] Can't find server.cfg
#1
First off, I downloaded the dedicated server from the tools tab in steam. When I run the server, it runs just fine, except for some reason it can't find the server.cfg.

I placed the server.cfg in both:
"c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\steamname\source 2007 dedicated server\dod"
and
"c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\gidgidonihah\source 2007 dedicated server\dod\cfg"

I assume one of these 2 is the correct location because when I turn the log on it saves the log on "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\gidgidonihah\source 2007 dedicated server\dod"

I have the same issue with cstrike.
Also, no other cfg files will exec either. I can create a cfg file, set it to echo something and try to exec it, and it will say 'couldn't exec test.cfg'

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Make sure it isn't test.cfg.txt.

And don't use the Steam tool!

Thanks realchamp. I actually realized that a few minutes after I posted and didn't come back cause I got distracted 'testing' the server.

And I'm using the steam tool. So there :p. It's just for a small lan party tonight.

Thanks for the help though.

Hi Gidgidonihah,

Well,do you HAVE a server.cfg ? and if you do, is it in the right spot? If you don't have one, you need to make one Here once you make it, then save it to notepad as server.cfg. Make Sure It Is a CFG File, Not a .txt File With .CFG In the name. To do this, when you save, type SERVER.CFG in the name, and below, where it says file type, put it to all files.

Thanks

Freezercavin,

Please actually read the thread before trying to 'help'.

If you'd read the first post you would know I have a server.cfg.
If you'd read anything after that, you'd know that I had forgotten, and left the .txt extension on.

This issue is resolved.
Thanks for taking the time though.
