#1
Hey guys I have a problem with my kernel configuration/gameserver.
I have 2.6.31.1 kernel patched with grsec. Settings are done like its said in the manual (http://wiki.fragaholics.de/index.php/EN:Linux_Kernel_Optimization).
My problem is, that I can't reach 1000 fps or 996.
Pls help me to find a solution.

PLEASE do NOT answer like:
"this is not only not important for the gameplay, it is actually completely the same. the difference is a couple of microseconds. way beyond human perception! don't wast your time with this"
or "it's good enough".
For ME it's not good enough and I want to find the solution for this issue.
Thanks in advance.

Lol 900+fps is fine if it's stable. Why do you want the rest?

Read this please:
http://wiki.fragaholics.de/index.php/EN:Linux_Kernel_Optimization

"Reaching only ~950 FPS instead of 1000.0 is not an issue. The difference of 50 microseconds (0.05 milliseconds!) can nobody possibly notice."

Guy, if you could read, you would not had post this comment, because for ME, its not fine. Please don't spam these comments if you don't know the solution. I read this page, and I am not happy with current result.

Nice attitude. Good luck. Google more if it's not fine for YOU.

As I said, my question wasn't "Is this good enough?". Please read the questions carefully and answer it correctly, otherwise just be silent.
Thanks

@ forgotten
I almost suggested running the "idler", but I don't think it helps in this case. It helps only to make the FPS stabler.

Maybe you could try the "playing around" stuff on the wiki. I think you can try all the other options quite easily except the dynticks. Dynamic ticks requires kernel recompilation, so it requires bit more effort.

@loopyman, please, you go away from this thread. I read forgotten's question already today in the early morning and I was unable to answer wisely. He made so clear that he doesn't want to hear the "50 microsecond explanation" so I didn't answer with the "50 microsecond explanation". I almost answered, but I read the question and I realized he has heard the 50 microsecond answer already, probably multiple times. He doesn't want it.

Ok Forgotten, when you entered this site, you are entering a site with hundreds if not thousands of experts in the Game Server Industry. When someone answers honestly and truthfully trying to help you, you do not have the right to attack him.

As for your issue, the difference between 939fps and 1000 could stand between the quality of your hardware, and how many people are utilizing the server. Good luck on trying to get 1000 fps on a server over 12 slot, or 4 players active, cause it probably won't happen.

Ok.
I want to add something about "expert"
You think they are "experts"? rofl OK, "ex" is a has-been and a "pert" is a drip under pressure. Sorry this was offtopic, but they aren't really experts, if they post such stupid answers. In my topic I said that I don't want to hear such answers, did I? YES I did.
So please don't even answer if you don't know the solution.

Guys, PLEASE keep this thread clean.
As for the issue, many "1000 FPS" servers run AROUND 1000 rather then at 1000 100% of the time. Also, have you tried setting: +fps_max 1500

Please do not PM me for server related help

forgotten@sli-fan: youre right ... i wrote the same question in some other threads ... i got no other answer like you > "Reaching only ~950 FPS instead of 1000.0 is not an issue. The difference of 50 microseconds (0.05 milliseconds!) can nobody possibly notice."

I said exacly the same > its not enought to have ~940 fps (i know there is no diff between 940 and 1000) but i want to fix that > its a kind of perfectionism.

But to get these answer i think your are wrong here....

I give you the information that you need an older kernel to solve this ... all kernel over >2.6.28 does this problem...you cannt really solve it > or i dont know how because noone helped me (same like like).

> perhaps you can reach the 1000 fps with a newer kernel > u need to load a pre lib ... but thats the same problem in this forum ... they wrote a lot of these stuff but noone post "how you can do this?" e.g. 2000FPS cs:s server.... i asked for ... but no help ...

hopefully iam the first who could help you a little bit..... :-)

best reguards....peter
