my community is planning on chipping in together to buy a server instead of renting a dedicated server, so what sort of min specs am i looking at to host 4 x 40-60 slot css servers @ 66 tic with sourcemod ?

will be going with linux as i'm more confident with it Smile

Atleast a Quad Core with 2.766GHz
One server for each core.

thats kewl, i'm looking at xeons, however we don't want to be spending to much tho, so what xeon would you recommend ?

I don't know that much about Xeons. A Quad Core should be fine.

does any1 know a good supplier in the uk for pre-built rack servers, atm the cheapest one i can find is http://www.rackservers.com

Check out Xcase, they do pre built servers. Wink

There is also Broadberry but they are quite expensive.

As far as Xeons, you're not going to gain anything (except cost) unless you go to a dual-cpu setup. The Xeons are essentially Core2X/iX processors capable of operating in parallel.

I would go with a Q9550.

Why not build your own server? You'll save a lot of money and get the exact components you want.

Just make sure that you co-locate the server. Hosting on your home connection will (generally) not work out well.

i have plans on using rapidswitch.com to co-lo based in london docks telehouse with good ips/latency/pings etc Smile

Xcase is pretty decent site for cheap servers, after pricing up parts from scan.co.uk it only saves me about £50, so i'll probs go for Xcase
