routing external ip to local ip

Hey,

I'm running a few servers on a dedicated server which is connected to the same router as this computer and my router (like most) wont allow me to connect using my external ip only the internal one. So my question essentially is how can you route a connection attempt from this computer to my external ip to be routed to the dedicated servers local ip?

I don't think that is possible.

The router will always use the local ip instead of the external ip, others have to join by the external ip.

The issue is for security. Your router sees an internal IP trying to accesses your outbound port. Since this can be use by an outsider to spoof at an insider, the connection is dropped. (This is one of several explanations.)

Yeh, hence why I originally was trying to figure a way to route traffic on this computer alone to change external to internal ip.

I know this can be done using NAT but is a pain in the balls.

You can directly forward your external IP to an internal computer (Given your router has this feature... most do NOT). However, you would then need a second IP to give to the rest of your internal network. This means you would need to buy another IP address from your ISP if they offer it.
