srcds.exe will not run
#1
OS: Windows Server 2003
Install DIR: C:\srcds\
Attempting to installed TF2 Dedicated Server
I've run the following command to make sure everything was downloaded, installed, and updated... "C:\srcds\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game tf -dir c:\srcds -verify_all" and everything seemed to be installed ok. However... when I do the following nothing happens, and this is copied from my command prompt.

Code:
C:\srcds>cd orangebox

C:\srcds\orangebox>srcds.exe

C:\srcds\orangebox>srcds.exe -console -game tf -hostport 27015 +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort

C:\srcds\orangebox>

By running srcds.exe by itself, in theory I should have seen something pop up on my screen... but nothing showed up. By following that up with the srcds followed by all the attributes I should have seen something as well... but again, nothing happens.

I'm at a loss, I've tried a reinstallation 3 different times now, anything to help me eliminate a 4th reinstall would be appreciated... thanks.

create a desktop shortcut

Clicking the exe directly in the folder doesn't do anything its as if I didn't click it at all... adding parameters in the target doesn't do anything either.

Just do what he said and create a desktop shortcut. Add the parameters and it should work. Do you really need -hostport 27015, wont -port 27015 do the trick?

thats what i mean, i created a shortcut and added the parameters... nothing happens, its as if i never did anything.

The shortcut doesn't run. I'm looking in the task manager and there doesn't seem to be anything hidden in there I may have missed. Its almost as if I have an srcds.exe that's only function is to be srcds.exe... like it has no internal code to do anything.

try this
"C:\srcds\orangebox\srcds.exe" -console -game tf -port 27015 +maxplayers 24 +map ctf_2fort

I take it you mean doing that in the target for the shortcut?

Yeah same result, nothing happens. According to what i've read... just double clicking the srcds.exe itself should pop up the dedicated service interface gui rather than running it a console. Is it possible I got a bum srcds.exe? Since everything depends on that exe working and nothing seems to work.

Double clicking does nothing. Try updating with -verify_all

Keep running until you don't get the error.

so again, do you think that might have been the reason i couldn't get srcds.exe to run at all?
