This PC would be a good server?
#1
I'm going to buy a server pc with the money I got from a summer job. It will have a 3 GHz AMD Phemon2 Dual Core CPU, 4 GB 1066 MHz DDR2 RAM, and Windows 7 beta. My internet is 30/6. Will this be enough to run a 24-man TF2 server AND a ventrilo server with 10 slots (without any internet or CPU lag on TF2 or vent)? Thanks for help

You probably shouldn't install the Win7 Beta since it's over...

I would recommend like linux or something, if you won't be running and playing on the same pc.

I won't be playing and hosting on the same machine, so I'll use linux as the OS. With linux installed, I'll be able to host the vent and TF2 without lag right?

Yes. 6Mbps up should be plenty for what you want to do.

Note that the max number of ventrilo slots you can host is 8.

He is right, 8 slots is max.

Realchamp, I'm guessing you are hinting at the cracked versions you can get. Well I can tell you now you won't be able to get more then 8 clients on them, it may show 100 slots when you query it but I'm afraid that isn't correct!

I never got more than 5 on it, so I actually never figured that out. However, I think you are right, Hazz.

So I switched to Mumble.

your connection sounds like a home connection. even if the bandwidth is sufficient, don't expect the pings to be first quality...

That's correct. My home server has a pretty high ping compared to a rented server.

Could install a Teamspeak2 server, its as simple as ventrilo, and you don't need a license, even for 100slot servers.

Although you have to deal with the hideous gui of it Big Grin

Yeah you can easily go for a 500slots TeamSpeak 2 server, no license needed. But Ventrilo is better! Or do Mumble!

You can't host a 10slots Ventrilo.

You can maximum host 8slots.
