Hosting my own webserver for sv_downloadurl

Hey guys,

I am almost as "n00b" as it gets when it comes to webservers. I was wondering if anyone had any good hints or tips on running my own webserver for sv_downloadurl for hosting my in-game files.

The idea I have right now is to host the game server at my house and host the webserver at a friends house, that way download speeds would be better? Does that make sense??

I guess what I am asking is does anyone have any opinions or can someone point me to a tutorial on how to set up a webserver??

Yes, the speeds will increase and will be better for both game and web server. You can use any web server software, iis, etc. There are many programs out there to do this for you, also people offer fast download space, some charge and some do not, might want to search the forums for this, as it will be easier and i'm sure faster as well.

I can give you a host. Since I am testing my web server. It's not a permanently place but temporally.

Right, the whole idea of me trying to do this is to do it for free. I was wondering if IIS was the best way to go as far as hosting a site for files?? Anyone have any suggestions?

I use XAMPP.

With Apache, MySQL, PHP and FileZilla for FTP. Works great!

IIS is NOT the best way to go because of the MIME filetypes... go with XAMPP or WAMP, either works

And I'll ask one more time and then i'll shut my mouth but can anyone point me a tutorial/walk-thru on doing this?? Does one exist? If not i may write one up if I figure it out.
