server fps problem
#1
Hello,
I've been running a tf2 server on one of my computers for quite some time now and with this last update my fps for the server went from 500 to 200 with no change on my part I am just wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem or has any resolutions for this problem.

This is my command line
C:\srcds\orangebox\srcds.exe -game tf -console -autoupdate -ip <192.168.0.198> -port 27015 -tickrate 33 -nocrashdialog -pingboost 3 +fps_max 600 +exec server.cfg +map ctf_hoops_beta +sv_lan 0 +maxplayers 20

What FPS booster did you use? And what windows version? Or is it Linux?

He's using windows. First off, change your startup line to this:
Code:
C:\srcds\orangebox\srcds.exe -game tf -console -port 27015 -tickrate 33 -nocrashdialog +fps_max 600 +map ctf_hoops_beta -maxplayers 20

Ok I changed it and yes it is windows. I didn't know if that was neccessary alot of that a guy told me to do when I first started which was over a year ago. I've learned alot since then but still wasn't sure about what was neccessary in the command line. It still did not fix the fps though.

Why would you use 33 tick with 600 fps? wouldn't it be better to 100 tick and then 300 fps or something? TICKRATE > FPS?

The FPS just makes the game more smooth. The tickrate however is more important.

I appreciate the suggestions here, however I understand what tickrate and fps do. If I am correct a higher tickrate requires more bandwidth. That is bandwidth I do not have. FPS from what I understand does not require more bandwidth just CPU power. If I am wrong please correct me as I've only researched these things myself I have never asked anyone else. However regardless of these points I still want the fps higher than 200 when it should be at 500.

That's 100% correctly.

fps_max 0 - try that.

When changed to fps_max 0 it still seems to stay at 200.

I'll try it but last time I heard tf2 will not go above a 66 tickrate no matter what you set it at. Also I've changed tickrates on the server before and I don't see how this is going to change the fps of the server. It might change the fps of the clients on the server but not the server itself.

TF2 will not run higher then a Tic of 66. Anyone why tries to sell you a 100 Tic TF2 server is scamming you.
