What happens if bandwidth flatlines
#1
Hey Guys,

Was just wondering what happens if you hit 100% bandwidth utilization on your server box. Does the tickrate drop or does it try and hold tick and therefore drop packets (packet loss)?

Or does something completely different happen ?

Thanks,

Chris

Packets would get dropped and people would get disconnected. SRCDS can't tell if you've used up your bandwidth and can't dynamicly change the tickrate. Anyways, you want to keep bandwidth usage under 80%.

The server chokes(packets don't reach the client) and gets loss from the client (doesnt receive the clients packets) So tickrate drops.

Yeh i totally understand what you are saying Mooga however when bandwidth costs $300 /mbit in Australia then the luxury of 20% of your network not being used gets thrown out the window.

Btw it will only flat line in terms of inbound so in theory that would mean it would only send the packets it can therefore the tick rate dropping.

Is there anything like removing dead bodies or anything like that you can do to save bandwidth?

Thanks,

Chris
