Intel or AMD with 40 Slots at 100 Tick?
#1
Are there any Intel or AMD CPUs that can handle that?

I also mean 40 slots together, not a total combined amount of 40 slots.

Please do not PM me for server related help

That really doesn't help me in anyway because this is for a server I will be building. I am looking for CPUs that host slots, not a how many slots will my CPUs hold.

If it is 40slots together(total)

You could simply just split each server on each core. So you wont need a strong and powerful CPU.

40 slots together not 40 slots combined, 1 srcds server 40 slots.

Ohh I miss understood sorry.

I haven't seen an AMD capable of this yet. I have seen one more Intel processors with this capability. I just don't remember the name!

Well I was leaning towards AMD due to the fact that they have the new 6 Core CPUs and someone mentioned the bigger the L2 cache, the more slots.

That is a load of crap I'm afraid. Intel CPU's are the best by far at the moment.

A cheapish Intel CPU which could easily handle this would be the Q9550, that has recently come down in price to 170 GBP. (2.83Ghz per core)

I'd say a Q6600 is a good bet.

Just get a Dual Core AMD It'll handle it fine

I don't think you're going to be able to run a single 40 slots server @ 100 tick on a std. clocked CPU.
Q6600 and Q9550 will not be able to handle this since SRCDS is not multithreaded.

Dude, if ur simply running NOTHING else on the server... a freaking single core will do... starting with Pentium4...

The best thing you could get is an Dual core... AMD is preferred

I use Phenom X4 955 BE to host:
2xCS:S 32 slot;
1xCS:S 12 slot;
TF2 32 slot;
L4D 20 slot -
Servers do runs pretty smooth, getting 500-1000fps all the time. Also it takes less power in compare with 9550 while costing the same and having a bit more performance. According to Task Manager System load doesn't top 50% all the time, mostly staying around 30%. Until upgrade I run Athlon x2 4200+ with 3 CS:S servers, it was almost but not enough, so I guess any semi modern high-end CPU could carry the job without any problems.
The i7 are just too expensive for me, I got my AM2+ MoBo for 55$ and the cheapest i7 board starts at 300$, also the CPU itself cost 50% more (for i920). And taking in account that i7 isn't much suitable for games ant game servers then q9xxx series with this prices it doesn't have a chance.

No, AMD is terrible for any large pub servers (past 32). The CPU will choke on you unlike an Intel where the cache size is larger. This is from personal experience being an administrator for a gaming community for 4 years.
