I'm completely new at this and need some serious help.
I was able to get the server up and running through the file that droc made for one click installation. It works, great. But now I'm confused about how to change maps, or add maps to the server.
I was told on the steam group chat that I needed to change the map files which are .gsp files to .cfg files. I have no clue how to do that. If anybody can explain this to me, it'd be much appreciated.

1. Changing map.
Use changelevel cp_well to change map.
2. To add map.
Add the map file in your maps folder. Simply, copy the .bsp directly into that folder. And the map is working. Unless the map is invalid.

ok, that answers my question, there's no need to change any .bsp to .cfg for any reason then.
One more thing. Since I'm totally new to this... is there a list of basic commands I might be able to look at somewhere? the only command I know so far is, now thanks to you "changelevel."
Thanks so much realchamp... I guess those other guys were just trying to over complicate things.

Thanks a lot realchamp...
Now is there a way to access the rcon while playing TF2? like back in the day with UT you could pull up rcon by hitting the tilde key I seem to remember.

what do you mean when you say "ingame console" do I hit "y" to speak, then say rcon_password mypw? If not, then I guess that's what I'm asking... how to access the ingame console?

ok... I'm trying to change the respawn time to 5 seconds... do I just add mp_respawnwavetime 5 to the .cfg? and also I've removed a map from the mapcycle and it still shows up in the game as it being part of the cycle. Do I need to restart the server for these changes to take effect?
Also whenever I get to the rcon say hi command it says it's "unable to connect to remote sever"
suggestions?

realchamp you are a life saver.
I tried to edit it before I got a response back, but looks like you beat me to the punch... I'm having issues getting connected via rcon. If you scroll up you'll see the error message I posted "cannot connect to server". I am, after all, running the server, so I supposed that could be the issue? since I'm technically not "remote" or something.
Any advice?

If you wrote that into the server, don't do that.
Have you portforwarded the RCon port?

I did port forward the rcon port indeed.
Also about this mapcycle.txt file... I restarted the server after I deleted the map from the mapcycle.txt, but lo and behold when I restarted the server, it was the first map to play! What am I doing wrong?

What's your startup line?
