TF2 Server [Resolved]
#1
Hi Guys.
I've been trying to set up a tf2 server using guides from this website as well as others but there are are few questions i still have.

BASIC INFO
Server OS: Windows 7 32-bit (Is this a problem?)
Processor: P4 3Ghz hyperthreaded
Ram: 1Gb
Game(s): Team Fortress 2
Start Up Command: (Using Batch File) "c:\Server\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -autoupdate -game tf +maxplayers 10 +map ctf_2fort
Admin Mods: Mani Admin Plugin

I followed this tutorial a lot as well as 2 others from this site.

So far I have
-been able to play on the server from my LAN list on Steam
-Installed Mani Admin Plugin on this server and given myself admin rights
-Given the server a static LAN IP (192.168.0.99)
-Forwarded Ports 1200 UDP, 27015-27039 TCP and 27000-27039 UDP to the static LAN IP
-Changed the network connection settings (IPv4) on the server from (Automatically obtain...) and set the IP address (192.168.0.99) Subnet mask, default gateway and DNS Servers manually
-Checked to make sure above ports are open using PFPortChecker from Portforward.com. All of which are fine.

Now onto the questions.
1. I was led to believe that you had to add your external IP and hostport to either the 'Start up Command' or 'Server.cfg' but after reading a few different threads here it seems this is unnecessary. Is this correct?

2. Now when I run the start up command file everything seems to start up fine (as appose to when i add the external IP to it and i receive errors like "could not allocate any server IP port") but the server still shows up on the LAN tab in the steam server list and I can not add it as a favorite using the ExternalIP:27015 is this because I am browsing the server list from a computer behind the same router as the server?
i.e Would i have to be at someone elses house to connect using the external IP? If so then I'll post the IP if one of you guys could be so kind to see if you can connect.

Thanks in Advance.

Correct, Both of these are unnecessary to run the server (unless running more than 1)

You would connect via LAN tab, have your friends save it to fav's using your external IP. I don't believe you can add your external IP to favorites and connect off of it.

Good luck Smile

He can't add his own external IP, it will never respond for him on that PC. Smile

Just connect to it locally.

OK guys. So I should just be able to get my friends to connect to this server by giving them the externalIP:27015. Thanks a bunch both of you, you were very helpful and replied fast. Another quick question would be how many slots do you think I could run on the above hardware with about 8mb down and 1mb up adsl2+ connection? Its not a very fast up speed i know.
