Is This Server A Beast?

First of all, wylker, use the Edit button... also why are you fighting over a forum online... its just stupid

@OP, I would suggest getting a 1 processor that has a higher clock speed than the lower one, then get the other one later. Also if you are getting that case, i would suggest some aftermarket coolers for those processors so they would be easier to overclock. Also for the harddrives, if you are only going to run game servers, you can get 6 250 gb and Raid 0+1 them so you have speed and a backup.

Hmmmm, now that got me thinking... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=245556 i found that, but i wouldn't trust it. You SHOULD be able to, but im will not guarantee that it will work.

Trini8ed Wrote:I am building my own server for my clan and was thinking instead of buying one get one and custom built one off newegg.com, so i did and came out with these results. I would like to know how this would do DISCARD my internet connection this is one huge beast so please tell me how many 32 tf2 of cstrike or garrysmod servers it could run.

Operating System: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x64 Hyper V
Processors: 2 x 2.26GHz Intel Xeon E5520 Nehalem Quad-Core / 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache / 1066 FSB
Motherboard: Intel S5520SC / Dual LGA 1366 / Intel 5520 SSI EEB Dual Intel Xeon 5500 series
Memory: 24GB of PC3 10600 ECC / 1333 MHz / 2GB Sticks
Hard Drive: 3 x 500GB 72K Seagate SATA 3.0 GB
CD Burner: 2 x LG DVD-Burner
Power Supply: 1000 Watt Power Supply
Video Card: Onboard

One way to address your question(s) or what not is to work backwards. Couple facts you've provided so far:

1. Internet connection, while you have said to ignore this part, its still something useful ppl here would use to respond.

2. Running for a clan

3. $2300 budget

The above what I got out of this thread aside from the unnecessary bickering. I suggest you list out what your Needs vs. Wants. This would mean what games and how many of them. Additionally, what other applications you want/need to run off the same box (e.g., webhosting, mysql, etc.).

Once you figure your above Needs/Wants list, then include a bandwidth rate you'll have the machine on.

From there...I gurantee you ppl here will provide more appropriate response to you (i.e., hardware, setups, OS, pricing).

Imo, all threads should be locked if they say, "how many servers/slots can this dewd hold?"

Good luck with a more productive/constructive discussion.

Okay i would be running iis my internet connection would be 50Mb Download and 50MB Upload this would be my internet connection. I wold run mysql and php5, I would have 4 24 slot tf2 servers 3 24 slot gmod servers and 3 csrike 24 slot servers. I don't think my internet wold be fast enough this is static ip from comcast business class i think i could run maybe 4 or 3.But i hope it would be fast enough.

Well that is a better start.

Now, given all those services you've stated, personally I have no idea if the machine you quoted will handle all of that. So I defer to the other big heads around here. Big Grin

As for the bandwidth, hmmmm, I'm sure there is a way to calculate an approximate amount assuming all those game servers are full.

Pardon me, but I don't see any such upload rate you stated on this link for Comcast Business class, but I may not be looking in the right place:

http://business.comcast.com/internet/details.aspx

Not even sure I understand your next to last sentence about 3 or 4. what is that?

Maybe you should start out small, since its from home..... lol

Good luck!

First of all, I belive SRCDS doesn't like 64bit versions of OS's. Wink

4 x 24slots Team Fortress 2 servers.
3 x 24slots GarrysMod servers
3 x 24slots Counter-Strike: Source servers.

--- calculation...

Team Fortress uses ALOT of CPU. So I wouldn't go for more than 1 server for each core.

That's 4 cores so far.

The same is up with GarrysMod.

That's 7 cores so far.

Counter-Strike: Source is less resource needed, and you could probably put in 36slots server on each core. But I won't believe you can hold 48slots on a single core, maybe, but you should expect lag.

So in total: 10cores.

If I'm right your machine should have about 16cores???
