HLstatsX - Suggestions
#1
Hey guys.

Well ive been away for some time but I will let you know this, I have decided not to go and start a game server host, but to start a full blown HLstatsX service. Now I have put alot of work into this and it will be called VoodooStats, however I wanted to get the opinion of some of you here. On what you think I could offer that no one else does. Currently im competing on being cheaper than HLstatsX Premium while offering an identical service.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could add to this service?

Cheers, Adam

Automatic stats resetting.

Allow the user to set when the stats shall be reset, if at all.

My brother and I are starting a server and find that HLStatsX is just more expensive than we want to pay for. I think price will be a good point. What did you have in mind by the way?

theres HLXCE/Sourcebans which i am going to target managed hosting for myself and I am signed up in a new one coming out soon called velocity-stats that I plan on providing server space for and log data for. so game stat wise for FREE there is already
HLXCE/Psycostats/ and velocity-stats coming soon. Psychostats has better art per se but HLXCE is definitely the best as of right now. ALL SUFFER if you happen to be a large gaming community as they suffer from bottlenecking.

We run 9 servers spanning over three dedicated machines and are yet to suffer bottlenecking on our HLXCE setup.

9 servers could be made up of 16 slots or up to 8 slots with l4d, how many servers per se is not the problem. The problem is the sheer bandwidth servers use when all servers tend to be active. You typically will have bottle neck issues with MYSQL before bandwidth becomes a problem. We are already seeing this happen more and more as more established game communities move over to HLXCE to cut down on cost. The proxy set-up has been in non-stop demand.

We have on peak times around 200 slots active.

3 Words... "MAKE IT FREE"

My suggestions are one that doesn't use perl to read log files and doesn't require perl to be running but just simply runs as its own independent addon... One that will connect to the mySQL database directly from the game server and then all you would have to do is have the web based script connect to an SQL database and such...

Just don't make us run a god damn perl daemon... Please.

200 is easily handled depending on the machine without any proxy set-ups. I am not having issues on one server alone managing over 450 active slots of incoming data. I have one port/one mysql daemon alone handling 240 active slots so I think it depends on the system. We had another user in the HLXCommunity who is having to run over 3-4 proxy daemons to get a decent work load however once we gave him the patch I use for large communities it immediately solved the latency issues he was once encountering. So it really does depend on each persons set-up etc.
