CS:S Bandwidth Usage: Data in GB? + Server Ability
#1
When considering a dedicated or colocated server, the packages always state how much BW you can use (i.e. 1000GB of Traffic, etc).

Does anyone have the figures on how much bandwidth is used for say, a 24 player server fully loaded, over a period of an hour?

Is anyone running servers on this type of package that has some data they could share with me as far as how many servers are run and what their usage is?

Our three CS:S servers are very established ( http://www.gamerscoalition.com/htmlgc/servertraffic.shtml ) so I'd need some data from someone who runs servers with considerable traffic.

The other big question that comes into play is how many servers I can run on a system. Obviously GSPs don't generally share with you how many servers they are packing on systems, so I'm again looking for people that are doing this on their own. For example, on a Dual AMD 2400+ with 1GB SDRAM, what could I expect as far as CS:S slots? Could something like that handle several large public servers?

Thanks for any constructive input.

I would say with regards to GSP's packing servers on systems, some overload (not good) but most publicise that they will not run more than 3 on one machine.
This always depends on the server spec. I would say the server you specified is a very good one, you could probably manage 4 css servers at 24 slots (not constantly full, but a fair whack of players on each) without any lag.

1000gb seems a standard amount (US server im guessing) which will also be plenty, UK bandwidth is much more expensive and we still get by.

1 x 66 Tick 24 Man
2 x 100 Tick 12 Man
1 x 100 Tick 24 Man

And it runs absolutely fine

Are you serious? All them servers only used around 50gig in a month?
I have 50gig a month allowance on 100mbit pipe in Australia currently running
1 x 33 - 14 Player
1 x 33 - 16 Player
Its school holidays down here so they are packed most of the day.
Its funmap servers and all downloads are done on a seperate server.
Does anything think 50gig will last for them 2 servers?

Thanks,
James

50gb *technically* wont be enough if you had both full 24/7 but you should manage to get bye if you limit the update rates

Ah thats ok thanks. Because most are only really active from 4pm to 12am

good point insanity but the reward you get is an entire country using your server as im guessing there are less servers in australia.

Yeh we have people from all over australia in our fanbase.
But damn bandwidth costs a load.
Some weekends can get upto $50AU!

Currently working out some adsense for our site to help cover costs Wink
