Assertion failed... A lot of other people have been getting that error, I believe that a server re-installation will fix it. Also make sure you have the required libraries to run SRCDS (zlib and pcre? someone correct me).

Hmm... Is this Doggie for real? The assertion error is in every install. It's nothing to worry about. It's on every server. Also zlib and pcre... I'm not sure where Doggie gets these. It's like saying make sure you've got Notepad in your Windows if you want to run server.

My guess is that you've got firewall blocking the connections. Turn off your firewall and try again. If it works, you'll know it's something in the firewall.

Notepad is not a library, it's a program. If you have problems with me, css, please take it through PM (it's what people usually do on busy forums).

Is your OS installation stock? I.e, have you installed or changed anything (particularly on the application and settings part) since your install?

Your posts are so utterly useless and usually even misleading just like in this case. Here you tell terry94 to install zlib and pcre, which is total nonsense. Everybody who have ever started srcds on Linux box have pondered what is that assertion error. It's totally clear for all *real* server admins that the error is nothing to worry about. Also it takes only second to find thousands of other server admins on other forums confirming that it's nothing to worry about. Yet you throw this stupid idea of zlib and pcre (WTF? REALLY? zlib and pcre, uuh.. total nonsense!).

@terry94
Trust me and pengy. The assertion error is nothing. If you've got problems with your server, it's not related to the assertion error. I still guess the real problem is the firewall blocking connections.

CSS... now you're not being very nice. The connection errors are your server trying to contact the steam/valve master servers. As said above, check any iptables/ipchains you may have to make sure the connection is not being blocked. You can also try adding a steam.cfg file (in the same directory as steam update tool) and add the following line
Code:
PreferredContentServerIds="id1 id2 id3 id4"
The ids can be found on this page Steam Content Server List by clicking the "View individual server statistics" link on the page.

I don't think this will fix your problem, but we can hope it does :p
Good luck,
DiSTANT
