TF2 update crashes client

hello,

I have a dedicated game server ( tf2 ) but it wont auto update. i googled and i found a sort of solution

update() {
PWD=pwd
cd ..
updatesingle
cd $PWD
}

i had to add that to the srcds_run file i did and my server wont start.

where can i find the default srcds_run file and how do i update my tf2?
(i dont have a webbased console and i cant rcon ingame, )

I just read, that the autoupdate is broken for TF2. (Both Windows and Linux)
