Help on rotating maps on Dedicated Server
#1
Hi guys, I was wondering of any of you could help me with a question?

I have installed a CS:S dedicated (Internet) server on a Dell Poweredge 4300 running Windows Server 2003 Ent Edition, it all runs fine and we can all connect to the server from any location.

However, I cannot figure out how to get it to cycle through the maps that are installed.

When you run srcds.exe in the console mode you have to specify a map to start with (dont you?)

I have the maplist.txt and mapcycle.txt files setup with all the maps installed, but I cant figure out how to toggle through the maps automatically.

This is my srcds.exe file

C:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map cs_assault +mapcyclefile mapcycle.txt

I have tried it with/without the +map without success.

Changing maps manually on the srcds console works fine, I would like to maps to rotate on time/win scales.

If anyone can help that would be really appreciated

Thanks,

Mike

to change maps automatically is mp_timelimit or mp_maxrounds or mp_winlimit i think theres also like a mp_fraglimit.. not too sure onthe last one but yea.. hope this helps for map cycles..

any of them.. they all tell the map to change at different times..

mp_timelimit will change the map after a certain amount of minutes

mp_maxrounds will change the map after a certain number of rounds have been playd

mp_fraglimit will change the map after a player gets that many kills

i think the other one is also mp_winlimit.. not sure on that one.. but that will change the map after a team wins that many rounds.

This is why I like the GUI. all these options are available within the configuration tab. You can also edit you mapcycle actively within the actual server GUI. Don't quite understand why windows users are discouraged from using the GUI.
Who knows where thoughts come from?

They just appear!!!

its slower, and the console is easier, u just need to set up some cfgs, which load every time ure server does

i dont see why people use the gui, its just bulky and annoying

Thats funny, I have +map aim_map2 without the .bsp extension and the server still loads it up. Go figure?

Point taken adam, didn't mean to preach, each to thier own. I have a complete set of cfgs so may have a look see how easy it is.
