srcds won't launch
#1
I recently came into a server. The only problem is it's in Sweeden, so the only way I can get into it is via Remote desktop. I thought it would be good for running a gmod server. Here are the specs.

Server OS: Microsoft Windows
Standard Edition
Service pack 2
Processor: Intel Xeon 5140 @ 2.33 GHz (I beleive it's 2 cores)
RAM: 3.00 GB
Games: Orange box
Command line:
start C:\Server\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game tf +map ctf_2fort +maxplayers 12

Install command line:
HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game orangebox -dir C:\Server

Problem: I'm pretty sure everything is done installing. It went past 100%, but it keeps saying connection reset by peer. I also tried reinstalling it, doing the -verify_all line, ect. I double click srcds.exe and the hour glass comes up then goes away. When I look in task manager in processes srcds.exe comes up then goes away. I also tried saving the command line in a note pad file and saving it as "run.bat" nothing.
I feel there's a big thing I'm doing wrong here, but it's been a long time and I just can't figure it out. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

ALSO: I looked in this forum for a long time. It seems some people had the same problem, but I tried what worked for them, no luck for me.

Chances are that you are fine. Is there any errors when running SRCDS?

It is not starting because you have not set a start map. +map

No. It doesn't come up. Not even a prompt box.

Try deleting/reinstalling all your content. Is your internet connection going up and down? Maybe that caused the problem with the download.

I'm pretty sure I have it figured out. I was downloading the orange box through the updater on my computer, (The one I'm posting from now) At 97%, it said connetion was reset by peer. I try downloading it again, it says everythings up to date. I try to open srcds.exe, same exact thing happend. Nothing.

I've had the peer problem before, but no, my internet is a hard connection, and is stable.

Try following the guide on the non-forums part of this site, and using this:
Code:
c:\srcds\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir . -verify_all

I'm reinstalling now. If it happes again, I'll try this.

I'm really sorry, but this is urgent and I'm afraid I'll have to bump this thread.

Did you lose your internet connection?

Or are you on bad wireless network?

No, I'm on a hard connection, and my connection is 100% stable. This happened on my sweedish server too.

hmm.. I've seen this problem before on these forums. I just don't remember the solution!

EDIT:

Drocona Wrote:I'm having installation issues with the updatetool, connections reset, winsock errors and content server busy.
At this very moment the steam content servers are under heavy stress, it's been like this since the steam community release. Only thing you can do at this moment is just run the update tool over and over again till srcds.exe appears in the folder.
We can't do anything about this problem, everything is just very slow (it can take up to 5 times longer to install the server you like than normal (mostly around 1 gig an hour on a 3mbit download under normal load, that means it can take up to 5 hours in the current situation))

Keep updating. That sometimes happens.

Please do not PM me for server related help
