How many slots?
#1
Hey everyone!

I wonder how many 66 tick slots I can have on these two servers - not on the same time, but one server at a time... Both servers have a 100/100 Mbit/s connection.

SERVER 1:
AMD Athlon 1.1 GHz
512 MB PC133 RAM
Ubuntu-server x86-32

SERVER 2:
AMD Athlon64 X2 5050e 2.6 GHz
4 GB PC8500 RAM
Ubuntu-server x86-64

SERVER 1:

Approx 16 slots

SERVER 2:

I would say around 50 - 60 PER CORE.

The first server, what would you say about it having 33 tick slots instead?

with out a doubt go with server 2. newer tech and much more ram. btw that cpu does not support ddr2 1066 (pc8500) only the 7 series athlons and up (phenoms) support pc8500, so your ram will probably be underclocked to pc6400 (ddr2 800)

Oh, that doesn't sound very good :O
But how can I know that my CPU will support the RAM-speed I'm using, then?

like a said any thing phenom base (includes the 7 series athlons) will support ddr2 1066 (pc8500). the resaon why i know yours wount suport pc8500 is by its model 5050e not only does it tell me its a brisbane based core but its also a 45w cpu.

your cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103298

athlon that can suport ddr2 1066 (pc8500): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300

in my case (living in the US) its actually cheaper to go with the better cpu

Okay, I understand... But the RAM is compatible backwards with PC6400 so I can run it in that "mode" with just that loss between 800 MHz and 1066 MHz?

if you sick with the 5050e the ram will be automatically set to as ddr2 800

Yeah, as long as my motherboard supports PC8500... And it does xD
The reason why I didn't want to change CPU is that I have already bought 5050e because of the low energy use to my server, and I don't really care of the RAM speed that much, PC6400 works well Toungue

But thanks for your help and happy Easter Smile
