[SOLVED] Difference: +ip and +hostip
#1
1) What differences there is in the cvar "ip" and the cvar "hostip" ???

2) If I create one listen server what cvar use?

"ip" o "hostip" ?

3) If I create one dedicated server what cvar use?

"ip" o "hostip" ?

4) What is better put the cvar in the file "server.cfg" or in the file "srcds.bat"?

5) Somebody say what if the server is "ONLINE" -> use cvar "hostip"
and if the server is "LAN" -> use cvar "ip". Is it true?

Thanks!

First off I HATE BOLD LETTERING, DON'T USE IT. Sorry for my little rant there...
You always use -ip for hl2 games and +ip for hl1 games. Its better to put the IP in the srcds.bat, #5 is not true

L4D is hl2 yes.
hl1 games are games based of the origional half-life engine, they are old (duh Toungue).

Code:
"hostip" = "1441556240" ( def. "" )
          - Host game server ip
"ip" = "xx.xx.xx.xx" ( def. "localhost" )
          - Overrides IP for multihomed hosts
That very good piece of documentation by valve should clear it up Toungue. Just use -ip, it's the done thing and it works.
The difference seems to be small, but I expect there is one major reason for using one over the other which this doesn't make clear. Maybe something to do with "for multihomed hosts".
Sorry I can't provide much more insight into the difference.

Haha, I wouldn't say I know all Wink. But I am glad to help people with what I have learned from this site, and from my work with game servers for LANs and internet communities.

It was after all this site which helped me learn about managing games servers to start with Toungue.
