[solved] After running server console doesn't echo keyboard input

I recently set up a Source dedicated server for Left 4 Dead on my Kubuntu 8.10 laptop. The first time I was playing around with it I didn't have this issue, but today when I booted the laptop up again I had this problem. After I run the dedicated server, my console does not echo the keyboard input to the output, like what happens when it asks me for my password when I log in. Everything else works (commands show their output and do what I expect them to do), but to fix the input echoing thing I have to log out and log back in when I'm running it from a TTY. If I start X and KDE and run it from Konsole, it only affects the current tab, so I can open a new one.

This is a fairly clean installation of Kubuntu since I mostly tinker with my desktop computer's installation. I do have the backports repository on (for KDE 4.2) and a repository for OO.o 3.0, but I didn't mess with much else.

System specs:
Kubuntu 8.10 64-bit (not server edition - I used the one that was already on my laptop)
AMD Turion 64 x2 2.0 GHz. Dual-core, no hyperthreading support
3GB DDR2 RAM, can't remember what speed right now
Startup command: ./srcds_run l4d -autoupdate +ip 192.168.1.2 +hostport 27203 +exec server.cfg +map l4d_farm01_hilltop
No mods installed

Nothing gives any error messages or anything else useful that I could find. I haven't been able to reproduce this behavior from anything other than the source dedicated server.

Use screen with the tutorial here http://www.srcds.com/db/engine.php?subaction=showfull&id=1098643920&archive= in the extra section. Also AMD processors never have hyperthreading, they only have hypertransport, which is good.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot later today (got homework now, bah). That looks handy that screen lets you detach and reattach to the server's console, so that's nice too

Also handy to know about the AMD processors, I had figured AMD had some kind of simultaneous multithreading too, but didn't know what their name was for it if they did have it. (Also, it mentioned it in the forum readme so I figured I should mention it )

D'oh, you're on spring break? Ours was 3 weeks ago. Then again, we only have 3 more weeks of classes (then finals week), so it's not all bad
