Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz
6 Gb DDR2 Ram

I've just purchased this computer off of ebay. Now, i'm thinking about sending the server to a data center. colostore.com says that:

"Colocate your desktop/tower server or up to 4U's of space for your rack mount server, over 2000GB of transfer and up to 2 amps of power."

Will i be able to send my computer over to the datacenter without having any problems.. 4U enough space for my tower?

Also with my setup how many slots am i looking at for 66 tick running fairly well. The computer comes with Windows Vista 64 Bit w/ S1. I hear that you can get 1,000 FPS with Windows Vista.. is this true or not? Or am i better off getting XP.. or purchasing wserver03/08.

You bought a desktop, they colo by the U.
You would need to build the server into a 1U case.

You need a rack mount server.
That box isn't mountable, is it?

I'm not quite sure what mountable means, it's just a normal tower. If anything i could buy a 1U case, and put the parts in there?

It is not that simple, 1U cases need special server hardware to fit in those specific cases. Also it is cheaper to colo a 1U case than a desktop.

I think you should be able to colocate that box, they hold it in cages rather than rackmounting desktops.

I checked their website, they do offer tower colo.
Therefore, you should be able to host with them.

Ok thank you Mooga.

Now with Windows Vista 64 bit... will i be able to achieve 1,000 FPS? Also is there problems installing SRCDS on vista.. if not i'll just run XP.

Also how many slots @ 66 tic am i looking at here?

If your motherboard has an option for HPET to be enabled, then yes, you can run 1000fps

having hosted servers on vista, and xp, id say the best option would be linux Toungue its also free

True but i'll have 6 gigs of ram. I've never used Linux before, so it'd be quite a hard time for me to figure things out.

Linux really isn't that hard... I started with linux half a week ago (Ubuntu server, mostly the same as Debian), and I already know how to recompile and modify kernels. I also have HLDS and SRCDS installed and fully configured.

Try it. Big Grin

If you have 6gb ram, you need a 64bit OS right? I don't know if Debian or Ubuntu is 64bit.
