Team Fortress 2 Update Available (3-18-09)
#1
Sounds more like a client update to me...

Jason Wrote:An optional update for Team Fortress 2 has been released. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive it. The specific changes include:

Added Multicore Rendering:
- This initial release is aimed at testing compatibility, so the option is OFF by default
- To turn it on, go to the Options->Video->Advanced dialog, and check the "Multicore Rendering" option

Other changes:
- Several performance improvements to decals and client bone/flex setup
- A variety of alt-tab and mode switch fixes
- Improvements to the way the engine initializes surround sound, fixing some specific hardware cases
- Fixed a crash on exit in Vista 64

Curious, could servers try multi-core support now?

SRCDS will probably never support multicores since processors are getting so good that it really isn't any issue anymore.

Wouldn't say that. If we have the technology available, why not use it?

But no really, whats the point now? Processors can handle several 100 tick 32 slot servers per core, so whats the purpose of multicore?

having multicore support would be the best thing to happen to srcds then you can get like 64 slot tf2 servers and if they continue developing more games like tf3 or w/e the need for multicore support has to be available as the servers will be needing more resources. And just because processors now can handle more doesnt mean we dont need this, we need to be demanding valve to provide mutlicore support and for valve not be such lazy asses

A commend from valve:

More news:
John McCaskey Wrote:Users getting disconnected with the "Invalid STEAM UserID ticket" error in TF2 when Steam servers are down is a bug. Users are only supposed to get this type of disconnect if Steam is up and explicitly tells your server to disconnect a user. It should be fixed for the next TF2 update.
