HLSW Location + Company
#1
hey, i don't know if I'm posting this in the right forum, but there should be a genius here that should know this. I bought a dedicated server on linux. Now, everytime I set up a game server and open HLSW, I get something like this:

http://wiki.hlsw.net/index.php/Server_Location

In my case, it's written DE - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So, I want to get rid of the xxxxxxx (brand) part, or change it, as I don't want other people to see wherer my dedi is hosted.

Any chance?

Not possible. If an opportunity should be possible, goto their forums and ask if they can do so.

Otherwise, not possible, since it's a basic feature of the program Smile

Ok, but HLSW must be getting this brand information from somewhere. I guess that this can be changed by the hosting company?

Hosting companies sometimes put a brand, and make you pay a little more to have it removed. There is no way to remove this as it is usually hard-coded into the admin panel that they use.

Check their forums to see the price of removal, and they might be able to tell you. I hate branding because if you rent the server, it should be yours to customize.

True, when you order a debranded server you should really get a debranded server ... it sucks. I'll ask my hosting company for removal.

branded = A branded server is a server with the hosting companies name in the server name.

Like: SRCDS.COM | War-Server 100TICK

If it weren't branded, you could name it anything.

Well, it shouldn't be possible. HLSW takes the IP and looks it up in a database. And then it sets the Hosting Name(country etc).

Arin registers ip to a certain company, and thats where HLSW gets its info from

its a simple task of using a database to view the ip owner information. If you owned the ipaddress that your box is hosted on you would be able to designate the name yourself. I heard it was possible to trick it with certain masking porgrams... Don't know how though.
*Windows lack of output*
You: Hey, I want to run this program!
Windows: Ok.. It crashed... Now what? Give up?
You:...wtf...
*linux output helpful?*
You: ./My_program
Linux:...Failed!...oo kitties!
You:...wtf...
