Is this box decent enough for what I want?

Hey guys (gals),

I'm a server admin for my gaming clan. One of the games we play is TF2. I've been hosting the servers for a while, but never really bothered to optimize them. I have 3 TF2 servers running on one box.

Server 1: Main Public Server
66 Tic
Avg: 330fps
24 player
BeetlesMOD

Server 2: Arena / Fun Server
66 Tic
Avg: 330fps
18 player
BeetlesMOD
SourceMOD

Server 3: Private Practice Server
66 Tic
Avg: 330fps
24 player

These are currently being hosted on a P4 2.8Ghz 2GB DDR-667.

I have another box, and I'm wondering if I should move my servers onto it instead. Would they run better?

2 x Dual-Core Opteron 265 @ 1.8Ghz
4GB DDR400 ECC Registered

Would it perform better on the Opteron box or on the P4 box? The Opteron box is 64-bit compatible where the P4 box is only 32-bit compatible.

A P4 is very old and slow compared to any newer cpu. 64-bit does not give you much advantage (the games don't support it, but you should use a 64 bit OS because you have 4 GB ram). AMD cpus have shown some problems. But I am pretty sure that it will all run much better (I suppose your P4 is completely at its limits with 3 servers). the opteron has two cores each twice as fast or so compared with the P4...
