Windows 2k3 running out of TCP/UDP connections?
#1
Hey guys,

I have a 2x Quad Core (8Cores), 4GB Ram box in Sydney. It's been up for about 4 months. Its using Windows Server Enterprise 2003.

Its running exactly 256 slots at the moment, the most slots that are USED at any one time though is only around 100-150 max. The problem is NOT the HARDWARE, RAM is fine, no where near 4GB and CPU isnt even hitting 50% usage.

The problem lies with the connections somewhere...

After about 24hours, the box loses the ability to connect to any external servers/mysql databases, etc, e.g it can't connect to valve servers so players get Error with the STEAM USERID ticket.

Someone said I need to Tweak some TCP/IP settings etc, I already did that, and I also did some other tweaks which did not seem to help at all. The only way of fixing the problem is to reboot the entire server box, then everything is fine for about another 24hours. These are the tweaks I did:

Can anyone suggest why this is happening? Someone suggested I'm running out of TCP connections or something like that?

Thanks all!

It's not a TCP limit.

Please do not PM me for server related help

Whats the limit then?

Something is making it 'run out of' connections and its blocking UDP connections I believe. Do you mind if I PM you please mate?

I am still able to RDP into the server box but the box itself can't connect to Valve servers or to an external MYSQL database needed for my gamepanel.

Sounds like you dont have enough bandwidth.
*Windows lack of output*
You: Hey, I want to run this program!
Windows: Ok.. It crashed... Now what? Give up?
You:...wtf...
*linux output helpful?*
You: ./My_program
Linux:...Failed!...oo kitties!
You:...wtf...

What port is your server connected through?

What do you mean?

I have about 10 servers running all connected through ports ~27015-27050

between that range.

The same thing happens to me @ crystaltech, i just set up the css servers for a daily restart and it fixes it self, you do not need to restart the whole box, just the game servers... I might put in a ticket to switch it back to linux

I was thinking of switching to linux...

however my gamepanel im using (TCADMIN) Doesn't support Linux so its a bit ughhhh.

And your incorrect, I need to restart my WHOLE box, if I restart a single server it doesn't make a difference.

No, restart all of the game servers that you have
