I was told that my server was receiving lag with 28/40 @ 33 tic.. a steady 165 fps. I have 5 mb upload... Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz w/ HT 2 Gbs of ram. This doesn't seem to make sense? It's on a shared connection.. but i was told i could get up to 50 slots @ 66 tic.

50 Slots @ 66 tick on that connection? Don't think so. But anywho, whats the cpu usage like on the server machine? Are the pings spiking?

From what i was told there was like a 4 second stutter. I believe it's a hardware problem. Its CPU is a socket 478, i think.

That 5mb up can only safely support 25 slots or so. I've had friends who will host more than their internet can handle, and the server runs fine until a certain amount of people join, then it gets very laggy.
Try lowering the amount of slots to 25 or so, and tell us how that goes.

Beaver: It's weird though. I can host 100 tic server with 20 slots 20/20 and get no lag. 28 slots with 33 tic doesn't seem logical imo.
Dual: with 17/40 i'm gettin about 12-20%

I wasn't in there when there was 28/40. but i was there around 24/40 and no, no ping spikes or increased ms on my side at least.
Drocona said this in some other thread
"If you are sure you have 1mbps upload you can run 14-16 players on 33 tick."
Considering I have nearly 5 mbs upload, 4.5 or so ... i should easily be able to run 28 slots with 33 tic, for that matter even more.

Yes, but that can vary, you can have others on your network downloading stuff, searching the internet, etc. Also it could be your rates as well. What are your rates set to?
