im looking for a kernel for my css server. im running linux (ubuntu) pentium 4 with 2 gigs of ram (dads old computer).

Use ubunut 8.10 it comes ready to post 1000fps servers

Then start up a source server and set fps_max 0 and then see your fps its suprisingly stable you may need to run the idler on the how to but thats it.

what kernel does ubuntu 8.10 use? can you post the output of uname -a please?

for your own personal server? you don't really need 1000 fps. Only if you're selling them. Suckers out there think 1000fps source servers are actually superior.
If you can get a stable 300+fps with your current personal server setup, then it's just fine. Making it get 1000fps isn't going to change anything in game.

That's just my opinion though. I still like playing with kernel setting just to see what i can break Big Grin

I have 1000 FPS kinda stable on Ubuntu Server 8.10 with Zen kernel (Was worse with Vanilla and RT kernel).

RT in combination with the right scheduling (realtime priority) should be best on most systems... but the scheduling is important, the kernel alone is really not good.

Zen allows you to tune scheduling latency, and I find it really helps with fps
