SourceTV causes FPS drop
#1
Hello,

Im using Xubuntu with a custom made 1000Hz kernel and what im trying to do is to run a stable 10man 100tick CSS server and Ventrilo. Now I've got both things running and working just fine except one thing.

Whenever i enable SourceTV the server FPS gets very unstable. It jumps from 900-990 all the time. At some points it drops as low as 300 fps, sometimes even 150 (!!). Without SourceTV the fps stays at around 990 to 995 fps and never dips.

What is causing this?

Spec:

AMD Athlon64 3200+
2GB DDR 400Mhz
24/2.5 connection.

Regards,
Zee

Hmm.... You don't have a hugely fast CPU. How many slots is your server and how many are typically filled?

It is not recommended to have more than 10 slots for stv, if you want more, you must create a relay. This will stop the fps drop.

Its a 11slot server (10players + SourceTV)

The FPS drop occurs even when there are none players on the server. A single 2.0Ghz CPU should be able to maintain a stable fps.......

That cpu with 1000fps is pushing it.

But how is SourceTV making the FPS drop without recording anything and without any players on the server? While without it I am able to maintain a stable FPS?

Because you still have a bot in there (stv bot) running and watching the server.

Soo....uuuh....overclocking the CPU would possibly fix this yeah?

Well, Possibly but i doubt you'd get anything significant with that CPU anyway. A SourceTV relay is a nice way to do it though.
