Cannot connect to own server on LAN
#1
Hey!
I had a server up and running a year ago or such, working perfect on Linux. A friend of mine asked if I could host a server for him on the same system, and as I'm not using it for much I said Ok Smile
The addon that he wants to run doesn't work on linux, so I installed WinXP on a Virtual Machine (via VirtualBox) on my Ubuntu machine.
We downloaded the content and fixed everything so it's all the same as his own server (which works).
The server starts just fine, console goes through everything all the way to the end.
"Connection to Steam Servers successful.
VAC Secure mode is activated."

I know the IP-address and my ports are forwarded, however they won't show up as forwarded. This happened last time too but it still worked. Hopefully it will now too.
The problem is that I can't connect to the server, and it's on my own LAN..... I use console to connect 192.168.65.15:27015 (static) but it times out after 4 tries.

Server info:
BASIC INFO
Server OS: Windows XP 32 bit (via VirtualBox on Ubuntu 32 bit)
Processor: Will find out. 2.66 ghz dualcore something
Ram: 2 Gb
Game(s): Garrysmod
Start Up Command: (taken from a bat script for auto-restart)
Code:
start /wait srcds.exe -console -game garrysmod +map gm_construct +maxplayers 16 -hostport 27015
^Tried both hostport and port
Admin Mods: Pulsar Effect RP (PERP), Assmod Included (not my gamemode so I can't really answer all of it, but I'll try)

NETWORK AND BANDWIDTH INFO
Bandwidth: [Image: 1094470489.png]
Router: D-Link DIR-655
Local IP of Server: 192.168.65.15
External IP: Why is this needed? I can pm u with it if you really need it.
Port Forwarding Screen Shot:

UDP ports: 4380, 27000-27050, 1200

[Server on VirtualBox] --> [Server] --> [Router] --> [Internet]
The Server is in the DMZ.

Tell me if anything more is needed, like logs and such! Smile

Thanks for your time!

Recheck you have all files installed, run installation again!

Please do this command while your server is running:
Code:
netstat -a | grep 27015
And post the output of it.
Slå den med jeres fiberforbindelser...

I had this problem when I had originally started up my own server.
Check your port forwarding. That is what was happening to me. Make sure it's not "Port Range Forwarding" THAT IS INCORRECT! :-)

Already done like 10 times.

I'm running the server in Windows XP under VirtualBox.
I'll try tho, but I'll try to change the network adapter and forward the ports in Linux.

look up the ports that are needed to be forwarded and forward them Wink, and use both UDP and TCP :O, if other protocol is said then use it.

Is it possible for you to use bridging? That is much simpler.

Already tried, didn't work. (Can not connect to it)

I can't ping the server either.... I can ping everything FROM the computer (my desktop, the server hosting the VM, the router), but I can't ping the server itself from any other machine.

Firewall: Disabled

Small update:
The server is running on this VM because the gamemode (PERP) does not support Linux ATM. Therefore, I have to run a virtual machine to be able to host the server.
While the server runs on Linux we're all able to connect and play, but the gamemode does not work.

1st Pri: Get the server up and running. No matter Windows/Linux.
2nd: Find a new gamemode.
