[L4D2] Captions not working on server

Issue:

I don't get to see full captions when playing on my left4dead 2 server. No subtitles are shown and the only audio/music cue's that seem to be captioned sometimes are:

- Incoming Attack (when a horde is coming)
- Clown Squeeky Shoes (when a clown is nearby in the Dark Carnival campaign)

I've made sure this isn't a client issue, i have Full Captions enabled on my client en when hosting a local game i do get them.
Also a dedicated windows server i setup to test also showed the captions correctly right "out-of-the-box".

This issue occurs right "out-of-the-box" (after a full server install using the steamupdated) without altering any configs or adding mods.

I've rented the gameserver from a company called I3d.Net.
I have full FTP access to the server files and i can start/stop/update the server using a control panel.

Setup

Server OS: Fedora Core 10
Processor: n/a
Ram: n/a
Game: left4dead2
Mods: metamod 1.8, sourcemod 1.3.0 (don't seem to be related to the issue but i list them anyway)

Start Up Command: (this command is issued when i press the Restart button in my control panel)

Code:

./srcds_linux -console -autoupdate -game "left4dead2" +ip "213.163.69.86" -port "27015" +sv_lan 0 -maxplayers "12" +exec server.cfg +map c5m1_waterfront

Full Install Command: (this command is issued when i press the UPDATE button in my control panel)

Code:

./steam -command update -game "left4dead2" -dir . -verify_all

I hope someone encountered this issue before and can help me out, it's driving me insane.

is there anyone out there that might have the slightest idea about what could cause the captions to not show?

I have same problem... I don't know what to do with that...

Only "incoming" message comes... nothing like "smoker alert" shows...

Does anyone knows how to fix this?

btw. I just tried to reinstall whole srcds server without any addons or mods... didn't help....

yes, clean reinstall = same story

Hmm, I got captions works after I changed installation directory to different disk partition... It doesn't make any sense...

i don't have that possibility because i rent my server
Can you verify that there's a difference between the old and new install ?
Maybe it has something to do with access rights of the folder? is it possible to list me your chmod settings on the different subfolders of your hlds install that is working? I know it's a long shot but still..

well it was in /home/user/..../ folder before

now I installed it to /srv/HLServer/...
