telnet
#1
Hi,
Hope that you could help me.
I've heard/read that in new scrds (l4d2) I can telnet it.
How can I do it ? Should I add any setting to srcds or how can I connect through cmd to it ?
Idea is to make *.bat file + scheduler to set password to server.
Thanks for your replies and sorry if my english is wrong.

os: xp pro sp2
cpu: amd 64 3000
game: l4d2

I don't believe you can, but I may be wrong.

Telnet is a service you need to download to use it. This is a free one:

Telnet is not really a save way to connect to a server. SSH is more save. You can use Putty to connect to the server where telnet/ SSH is running.
When you have a Windows machine you may want to take a look at Remote Desktop (or a free replacement).

So I see that I cant do it only with cmd>telnet 127.0.0.1 port ?
On other forum I was recommended to use hlsw. Yes - I can connect with it to srcds with rcon, but that is not the way I was looking for.
Anyway, thanks for you replies.

Read that, says that you can use "netcon" on L4D servers for linux and linux only.
And you can connect to netcon with telnet

So back to the original question.
No you can't use telnet for your server.
Use plain old Rcon instead, etc use HLSW as your client.

That's not right or they must have just changed it to linux only, because i've been using the netcon for a month now on windows. I tried using it today because i was testing things, now i can't logon through netcon to my windows srcds if my life depended on it, it just won't connect anymore, and i never changed anything since i last used it, which seems VERY odd. Why do i get the feeling they permanetly changed it to linux only? Sad

Nevermind, i got it working with windows again. I kept using "pass" instead of "PASS" lol.

Not if your using vista, or 7. I'm not sure about xp though, might be in the system32 folder, can try by typing telnet in run. In vista all you have to do is go to ( Control Panel\Programs and Features ). Under Tasks on the panel to the left theres a "Turn Windows features on or off" when you choose that you will be presented with another window for selecting specific features. If you scroll down, you will see that there is "Telnet Client", and "Telnet Server". By selecting the "Telnet Client" checkbox and clicking ok, it will take a min. When it's done, you will have the telnet client services enabled on your computer, vise versa with the "Telnet Server". So to answer "drk's" question. Yes, it is possible to use the netcon feature with a windows srcds server...
