Server's lags/pings.

Hi all! I have a problem/question: Me, my Bro & some of our friends wants to play on my Dedicated-Server, but I have a problem: when it's joining, all of them has a big lag & ping (excluding my Bro because it's playing LAN, but him also have a big ping sometimes). Im using this:

// PC sets:
>OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3
>RAM: 1GB (3800MB overclocked)
>20mb/s of Internet
>Set "Realtime" priority on srcds.exe

// RCON/Server commands
rate 30000
sv_minrate 30000 (I tried with "0" because it's "infinite" rate, but "30000" is working better).
sv_maxrate 38000 (I tried with "0" because it's "infinite" rate, but "38000" is working better).
sv_maxupdaterate 101
sv_minupdaterate 100


..any commands to change/use to fix the lag & ping problems?? Many thx !!

Sounds like you have a low upload-speed. I recommend at least 10 MB upload speed for apx. 20 players.

You can not move liters of water with a teaspoon in so little time

Note that, "20mb/s internet" does not matter if you have less than 1mb of upload speed.

Yeah sry for the spam, because when I was posted that thread, at the same time I posted this on 'SRCDS - General' too. well, my new rates (updated today) is:

>Download:
7.53 Mbps

>Upload:
0.65 Mbps

>Ping:
59 ms


so.. which rates for server can you recommend me? Currently Im using the default server's rates (sending "sv_minrate" & others rates & valuing the "default" rate), so my current rates of server is:

fps_max 300
rate 35000
sv_minrate 3500
sv_maxrate 0
decalfrequency 10
sv_maxupdaterate 66
sv_minupdaterate 10


It's now better, but still lagging a bit if Im using the admin menu/managements of [undefined=undefined]Mani Admin Plugin[/undefined].

You can install a monitor to know how much bandwidth you are using in real time.
Use sv_maxrate 0, and test it.
If you see it getting close to your upload "top speed" lower the maxupdaterate..

If your upload speed is ONLY 0.65 MB, you can ONLY host about 3 players.

depends on the quality of the server (updaterate)

I bet he can put out 10 players with updaterate 20 or 25
