High Ping Problems
#1
I've many forum posts about why pings are potentially high. I've made multiple adjustments, but the pings are still pretty high, regardless of map/plugin (irregularly in my mind).

Windows 7 Ultimate
Wolfdale Dual Core 3.0Ghz 6MB Cache CPU
4GB DDR2 800 RAM
1 TB 5400 Caviar Green HDD (possible bottleneck?)

Team Fortress 2
Server is running SourceMod/Metamod

20Mbps Down
5Mbps Up

The server is located in Kansas. Pretty centralized.

Code:
// Bandwidth Rates
sv_maxupdaterate 66
sv_maxcmdrate 66
sv_minupdaterate 66
sv_mincmdrate 66
sv_minrate 2000
sv_maxrate 30000
sv_region 0

I haven't seen anyone's ping that is less than 60 (minus my own). This is a local server I own and manage.

Do you guys see anything amiss?

I have to assume that your latency has to do with the internet connection you're using, not the server.

I run a CS:GO server in Atlanta (which is where I live) and my friends and I typically get <15ms. I run a TF2 server off of Amazons EC2 VPSs that's located in VA and we get <60ms. I don't know a ton about networking so there are probably better people to chime in than me, but I'd start with finding out how long it takes to ping other resources like your ISPs DNS servers or Google.com and compare the results. Or have a friend run a trace route to your server to see where the hold up might be.

I see the validity of ping differences between distances, but some of them are too high. For instance, my server is in Kansas and someone in Chicago should not have a ping of 70+. There are variations for sure, but overall it is a little off. I like your idea of doing the tracert. I will test that out. As for me pinging out. I get 30ms ping times for google.com. Thanks for the information. I will look into some additional things. If anyone else has any suggestions, let me know.
