srcds missing configure tab options?
#1
hello all. Ive got the server running fine. no problems anywhere, but I have a question. when getting the server up and you get to where you have these tabs for the server: Main, configure, statistics, players, bans, console. Under the configure tab I only have 5 options. I have seen this area FILLED with options on a youtube tut. my only available options are...warmup time, timer per map, win limit, friendly fire, allow flashligh. shouldnt I have a whole list of option that I could change if I wanted to? Are these options the same as setting the server.cfg? or autoexec? how do I go about adding configurables into the "configure" tab? what did I do wrong?

Your using "Steam Source Dedicated Server" and not the stand-alone version of srcds where there is a console by itself.

I think you should use the real srcds server instead of steam if you want to be customize more.

I think you can still configure or add commands by looking for the configs in...

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\username\(source dedicated server name for steam)

I folowed the instructions here with guidance of youtube as well http://maurits.tv/data/garrysmod/wiki/wiki.garrysmod.com/indexb076.html?title=Windows_Dedicated_Server_Setup
is this different than what your talking about? I was running the server on my play machine but moved it. I just copied all my files to another pc. the other pc does not have steam.

Oh okay. I wasn't sure what method of srcds you are using. There are two ways to make source dedicated servers. You talked about tabs in the console and the only method I know of srcds that has that would be downloading source dedicated server through installed steam.

I'm assuming your running a garrysmod server. Did you create a server.cfg for the server? In that tutorial it doesn't tell you to make a server.cfg.

There's a sample server.cfg in this topic.

There are two ways to make a source dedicated server (srcds).

First method: (requires the program steam to run srcds or create a shortcut)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap-_Zb5tGvI
Download and install the program Steam.
Go to library tab and go to tools.
Look for Source Multiplayer Dedicated Server.
Download and install.
This method you can start up srcds through steam.

Second method: (Stand-alone srcds)
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6758-TCMF-2234#Download_and_Install_HldsUpdateTool
Download the server through HldsUpdateTool Installer.
This is downloaded separately. Not through steam.

I hope that makes sense on the different methods.

yes ive done the second option. that means I already have the stand alone server that you recommended. I tried the steam version and it will not even show gmod in the games area so I cant load those file.

EDIT: I just downloaded the Source Multiplayer Dedicated Server from steam and it appears that garrysmod isn't available on there.

It could be that those settings only appear specifically for that game.

For example, in CSS, more settings appear on there because they are the default settings.

So I'm guessing those are the available settings or default for garrysmod since it's a stand-alone game.

If you want more custom settings or configuration, I think you would need to create a server.cfg or autoexec.cfg and put the settings in there.

Example settings:

I do have a server config. Ive seen a youtube tut on setting up the server the way I have and there were more options. Making changes via srcds seems quicker, easier and can change on the fly as gaming. rather than redoing my cfg file. thanks for trying to help anyway.

Can you post the youtube tutorial that you used to make the server so I can take a look at it?
